Re: Qualified Charitable Distributions (IRA Rollovers)

Dear Friends:

Thanks to donors like you, our Temple Hillel doors are open for Jewish Students to connect with one another, explore Jewish life and learning, and grow into Jewish leaders who will make a difference in their communities.

The Year End holiday rush brings lots of inquiries about how to make an impact with a gift from an individual retirement account (IRA). It’s no wonder. Every day, 10,000 Baby Boomers turn 70½ which is the age they can start making gifts out of their traditional IRA accounts. These gifts, called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (“QCD”) or IRA Charitable Rollover, are one of the fastest growing areas of philanthropy.

The top benefits include:

• Use your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) to make a gift and avoid income taxes.

• The amount transferred does not count as income, keeping you in a lower tax bracket for 2023.

• May satisfy all or a portion of your RMD for the year

To qualify:

• You must be age 70½ when the distribution is made to Temple Hillel.

• You may direct up to $100,000 (individual) or $200,000 (per couple).

• The transfer must be made directly from your IRA to Temple Hillel.

How to make a QCD:

• Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift directly from your IRA to us.

• A letter template is enclosed for you to fill out and send to your IRA plan administrator to direct your gift.
