Edward Newman Library and Legacy Program
The Newman Legacy Program
Temple Professor Edward Newman devoted his life to championing Jewish causes and advocating for individuals with disabilities. His passion for community and education left a lasting impact, and before his passing, he raised significant support for Temple Hillel.
To honor his legacy, Temple Hillel launched a matching gift campaign, drawing contributions from Newman family members and friends, the Philadelphia Jewish community, Temple University trustees, and Temple Hillel board members.
From this generosity, the Newman Legacy Program was created—a living tribute that reflects Dr. Newman’s values and continues his work in inspiring others. The program includes:
The Newman Library – Celebrating Dr. Newman’s deep connection to Jewish tradition and learning.
“Book of the Year” Initiative – A symbolic effort to pass Jewish knowledge and tradition to younger generations.
Two Annual Lectures – Honoring the universalist values he embodied, encouraging dialogue and reflection.
Through the Newman Legacy Program, Dr. Newman’s dedication to community, education, and Jewish life continues to inspire students, faculty, and the broader Temple Hillel community.
